ABOUT US
Apex for Youth empowers underserved Asian and immigrant youth from low-income families in NYC to unlock their potential and a world of possibility. Through programming focusing on health and well-being, education, and community engagement, Apex for Youth creates transformative social connections and celebrates cultural identity to build the confidence and self-efficacy of future generations.
Apex serves approximately 2,000 students annually from Kindergarten through their post-secondary years. We provide children and young adults with opportunities to develop strong relationships with adults who volunteer as consistent and caring mentors and role models.
JOB OVERVIEW
Apex’s Elementary Enrichment Department addresses the educational, social, and emotional needs of elementary students through out-of-school enrichment programs, family nights, and community events. Programs take place on Saturdays from October – May. These programs are run by staff with support from volunteers.
Elementary Enrichment oversees two programs, Read with Apex (K-2) and Elementary Explorers (3-5). Our Read with Apex program focuses on reading and creative writing with our K-2 students. Through this program, students will become more confident readers, learn how to tell their own stories and build supportive relationships with peers and volunteers along the way. Our Elementary Explorers program immerses students in grades 3-5 in themes of identity, culture, and community exploration through hands-on STEAM-focused projects. Through this program, students learn how they can use their voices and interests to benefit their communities
To support these programs, we are recruiting multiple part-time Program Facilitators in Sunset Park Brooklyn, Chinatown Manhattan, and Flushing Queens for the 2024-2025 academic year. Our sessions take place on Saturday mornings 9:30am-12:30pm from October 19th, 2024 to May 10th 2025. There are multiple positions open and our ideal candidates will bring experience working with elementary-aged youth, excellent communication skills, and experience with educational programming.
