A successful Apex volunteer enjoys interacting with and supporting young people, growing and learning about themselves, and understands the importance of committing to the full time period required by their program.
You can read more about the areas of interests and skills that best suit each of our volunteer opportunities on the program pages linked above. In general, we suggest you apply for the program based on your interest in the age of youth you want to work with, the time commitment, and your availability on the days the program takes place.
Apex accepts applications on a rolling basis. With a few exceptions, you will hear from Apex staff regarding an interview during June-September. Pending the interview, volunteers are placed into programs either in September/October for school year based programs, and in June for summer programs. Detailed program schedules are available on our individual program pages, linked above.
Apex reaches out to volunteers between June – September to schedule volunteer interviews. If you have already applied to be a volunteer and have not heard back from us regarding an interview, you can reach out to volunteer@apexforyouth.org. Contact information for each program can be found on their program pages, linked above.
No, volunteers may only volunteer for one program at a time.
Apex volunteers must be able to commit to the full time period of their program of choice. Apex’s programs vary in time commitment, with opportunities ranging from 6 weeks to 2 years. If you cannot commit to the program of your first choice, we suggest you check out our other programs to see if there is an option that better suits your availability and commitment preferences.
Our programs that serve elementary aged youth require volunteers to be at least 16 years of age or older. All other programs require our volunteers to be at least 21 years old.
To become an Apex volunteer, please first fill out our volunteer application form. Applicants selected to move forward will hear from Apex staff from June – September to schedule an interview. Based on the interview, applicants who are selected must first complete a background check and training in order to begin volunteering.
