Apex for Youth empowers underserved Asian and immigrant youth from low-income families in NYC to unlock their potential and a world of possibility. Through programming focusing on health and well-being, education, and community engagement, Apex for Youth creates transformative social connections and celebrates cultural identity to build the confidence and self-efficacy of future generations.

Apex serves approximately 2,000 students annually from Kindergarten through their post-secondary years. We provide children and young adults with opportunities to develop strong relationships with adults who volunteer as consistent and caring mentors and role models.

 

JOB OVERVIEW

Apex’s College and Career Success Department works to prepare our youth to be college and career-ready and meet the needs of our community through a lens of equity and culturally responsive support and advisement, actively working to address educational and professional barriers faced by Asian American youth from low-income backgrounds. Our programs emphasize exploration and curiosity and aim to expand young adults’ scope when thinking about their personal, academic, and career pathways. The Alumni Program Manager will report to the Associate Director of College and Career Success and possess strong communication and relationship-building skills, have experience in college success and/or career support, and have excellent program development and management skills.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Project Management (40%)

  • Manage and oversee all aspects of Apex’s Alumni Program including hosting events, implementing workshops, and managing opportunities that support college and career readiness and community building. This includes programming that the manager will:
  • Develop and launch alumni-support volunteer programs, including the First Year Alumni Support Program (supporting first-year students with college transitions) and the Career Connections Program (supporting older college students and recent graduates with career planning);
  • Manage recruitment, training, and support of students and volunteers with Alumni Programs.
  • Lead collaboration with other Apex departments supporting Apex Alumni programs as needed.

Communication (30%)

  • Maintain outreach and communication with Apex for Youth the college students and young professionals in the community which includes check-ins, sharing relevant opportunities, and providing support and resources as needed for up to 150 college and beyond Apex alumni.
  • Moderate all communication platforms for Alumni (for example Discord, email newsletters)
  • Manage communications with volunteers supporting the Alumni Programs

Scholarships Management (10%)

  • Manage the Apex Alumni Scholarship process including the application process, coordination of volunteer readers, and disbursement of funds
  • Manage ongoing College Success Scholarship including maintaining records for eligibility, providing student support, and processing funds each year

Collaboration (10%)

  • Collaborate with members of the College and Career Success team to implement teamwide events and opportunities
  • Support with Apex-wide events as needed

Data Management (5%)

  • Track alumni engagement, oversee collection of the annual survey, and suggest improvements and implement program changes based on evaluations and feedback.

Other duties as required (5%)

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • BA or BS required;
  • 2+ years experience working with college students in an educational or career development setting preferred;
  • 3-4 years of experience leading and managing projects and/or programs for youth and families; ability to work independently and take ownership of assigned responsibilities;
  • Experience in developing engaging workshops where they will facilitate groups either in-person and/or virtual settings;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to create genuine relationships;
  • Strong organizational skills, including attention to detail;
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment;
  • Proactive nature and self starter, ability to problem-solve autonomously;
  • Experience working with low-income and first-generation students a plus;
  • Demonstrated commitment to Apex for Youth’s mission, vision, and core values
  • Candidates are expected to be able to commute to the Apex office in Manhattan at least 2-3 days a week;
  • Ability to work Saturdays as needed, and take Sunday and Monday as the weekend.

 

Salary range: The salary range for this position is $64,500 – $70,000, depending on experience.

 

Overview of Benefits

Paid time off: In the first year of employment, employees are eligible for approximately a combined 40 days of vacation, holiday, personal, and sick leave (10 vacation days, 12 paid holidays, org-wide closures for one week over the winter holidays and one week during the Fourth of July, 5 sick days per year, 3 personal days a year). Additional vacation days accrue according to years worked in the organization.
