Learn more about our 2015 Inspiration Awards Gala student speaker!

Shu Min He just graduated from high school and our Apex for Youth mentoring program after completing three years with her mentor, Anne. She was born and raised in a small village in China, and when she first moved to the U.S., she had a difficult time adapting to the new culture. Shu felt alienated from her more “Americanized” classmates. She tried to focus her energy on her studies but the pressures of living in a new country, working hard in school, and taking care of her younger siblings were difficult. She decided to see a counselor, who turned out to be a former Apex mentor; the counselor recommended the mentoring program. Shu gave it a try and ended up loving it. She was matched with Anne, who supported Shu throughout her high school years and treated her just like family. This fall, Shu will be attending Haverford College on a full scholarship. We will miss Shu and expect her to return to visit often!
