Closing Day signifies the end of the mentoring program for the school year, and is also when we officially bid farewell to our graduating seniors. This year, we brought more than 120 mentors, mentees and volunteers from both our Queens and Manhattan mentoring programs up to the Riverdale Country School for a day of bonding and activities on Saturday, June 27.

The Riverdale campus has a variety of facilities we took full advantage of, including an indoor gymnasium, an auditorium, a spacious cafeteria with breathtaking views and several large fields. Despite the rain that lasted most of the day, our youth had fun splitting up into teams for some friendly competition in games like Dragontail and Gaga (a variation of Dodgeball we know you want to play). We then moved into the cafeteria to enjoy a hearty lunch of pasta and pizza from a neighborhood Italian restaurant. After lunch, the students were free to play basketball in the indoor gym, football on the outdoor field and make cards in the cafeteria. Our seniors also gave heartwarming graduation speeches, highlighting their time with Apex and thanking their mentors.

Mentors, thank you for guiding your mentees through another year, and thanks to all the volunteers who helped out! Also, thank you to the Riverdale Country School for letting us use your awesome campus for another beautiful end to a great year. Check out photos from the day below, including pictures of mentors and mentees getting silly in our (makeshift) photo booth!
