Apex for Youth empowers underserved Asian and immigrant youth from low-income families in NYC to unlock their potential and a world of possibility. Through programming focusing on health and well-being, education, and community engagement, Apex for Youth creates transformative social connections and celebrates cultural identity to build the confidence and self-efficacy of future generations.

Apex serves approximately 2,000 students annually from Kindergarten through their post-secondary years. We provide children and young adults with opportunities to develop strong relationships with adults who volunteer as consistent and caring mentors and role models.

 

JOB OVERVIEW

Apex’s College and Career Success Department works to prepare our youth to be college and career ready and meet the needs of our community through a lens of equity and culturally responsive support and advisement, actively working to address educational and professional barriers faced by Asian American youth from low income backgrounds. Our programs emphasize exploration and curiosity, and aims to expand youths’ scope when thinking about their personal, academic, and post-secondary pathways. These programs are run by staff with support from volunteers. The Career and College Success Coordinator is responsible for supporting the College and Career Success team to implement high school college access and career exploration programming. The College and Career Success Coordinator will report to the College Access Program Manager. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, project management abilities, and be a team player.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the College Access Program coordination, under the leadership of the College Access Program Manager, including managing student and guide communication, workshop planning and execution, and supporting students and college guides
  • Support College and Career Success team to implement high school college access and career exploration programming including school year Career Exploration event execution and Summer Career Exploration Program (internship program) student support and workshops/event facilitation, and other College and Career Success events as needed
  • Plan, manage logistics, and implement college access events and opportunities open to all students including Apex high school scholarships, college visits, and the college fair
  • Manage communication of opportunities and events to College Access Program guides and students
  • Support recruitment, intake, and enrollment of youth from partner schools and organizations into the College Access Program
  • Support recruitment, training, and supporting volunteers to ensure quality interactions between volunteers and youth in their small groups
  • Track and support high school students with application submissions for external education and college exploration programs
  • Lead program documentation process for the College Access Program and for College Access opportunities including attendance data, participant enrollment, applicant information, and communication records
  • Manage collection of evaluation data from youth to measure youth impact, and volunteers to ensure a positive volunteer experience
  • Proactively share programmatic feedback and contribute to ideas for program roadmap
  • Complete other duties as needed

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • BA or BS preferred (in lieu of a 4-year degree, GED and 3 years of experience in a social service or community organization required)
  • Experience working with youth required; experience with high school youth preferred
  • 1+ years of experience in a social service or community organization setting preferred
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with ability to create genuine relationships
  • Strong organizational skills, including attention to detail
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of assigned responsibilities
  • Positive and bright disposition with “can do” attitude
  • Proactive nature and self-starter, ability to problem-solve autonomously
  • Candidates are expected to be able to commute to the Apex office in Manhattan at least 2 days a week
  • Ability to work Saturdays in Manhattan as needed, and take Sunday and Monday as the weekend
  • Ability to travel for occasional overnight trips with youth, as well as for occasional out of town overnight organizational retreats

 

Salary range: The salary range for this position is $52,000 – $57,000, depending on experience.

 

Overview of Benefits

Paid time off: In the first year of employment, employees are eligible for approximately a combined 40 days of vacation, holiday, personal, and sick leave (10 vacation days, 12 paid holidays, org-wide closures for one week over the winter holidays and one week during the Fourth of July, 5 sick days per year, 3 personal days a year). Additional vacation days accrue according to years worked in the organization.
