As part of Apex’s Alumni program, I have gotten to do an internship, receive care packages, and applied and received a scholarship! However, most importantly, I have been able to stay connected with the Apex alumni and staff community. I find myself feeling so at home here, because of how welcoming the Apex team is. This year marks my ten year anniversary with Apex and coincidentally when I am also able to say that I’ve spent half of my life at Apex. I’m so grateful that Apex has continued to be a part of my life!”
– Vicki, Class of 2021
Apex continues to work with our students after they graduate from high school. We provide opportunities for connection with the Apex community, volunteering, and professional and personal development. Currently all support with Apex for Youth’s Alumni Program is only open to students who have been enrolled in an Apex for Youth Program in the past.
If you are a former Apex participant, but did not graduate from one of our high school programs and are interested in being a part of Apex’s Alumni Program, please email collegeandcareer@apexforyouth.org for more information.
Programs and Opportunities Include:
Students and Volunteers that are joining the program directly from the High School Mentoring Programs (HSMP or NVMP) or through the College Access Program are given the opportunity to continue working together through the difficult transition of college. With the foundation of the supportive relationship, the groups will continue to stay in touch while Apex provides college success resources, suggestions for conversations, check-ins and opportunities to connect with each other over school breaks!
Apex’s Summer Career Exploration Program offers current college students immersive, paid internships during the summer so they can explore career pathways of interest. Volunteer supervisors work with youth to support their professional development. All interns are hired and paid through Apex for Youth.
Throughout the school year, Apex for Youth hosts monthly workshops with different companies and organizations in New York City. These workshops, open to all high school and college students, give participants the chance to explore different careers within a variety of industries and companies. Past workshops have included resume and interview preparation, lessons in personal finance, and opportunities to network with professionals with careers in finance, tech, higher education, healthcare and more!
