The crowd at Cipriani South Street turned out in their finest on Thursday night, as Apex for Youth welcomed over 600 guests to its 34th Inspiration Awards Gala, which supports Asian American youth from low-income and immigrant backgrounds. Co-chaired by Aya Kanai, Melody Lee, and Ray Chan, the event brought together a cross-section of cultural and philanthropic leaders for an evening centered on community and impact. Actress Lana Condor and philanthropist Michael Chung were recognized for their contributions both within and beyond their respective industries.
The night’s program featured introductions from Olympic gold medalist Eileen Gu, who flew in specifically for the gala, and actress Avantika, alongside remarks from the honorees that underscored themes of representation, mentorship, and investing in future generations, each reflecting on the importance of creating space for the next generation.
Attendees—including designers, entrepreneurs, and creatives like Sandy Liang, Kim Shui, and Andrew Kwon—filled the landmark venue. Some participated in a live paddle raise benefiting Apex for Youth’s mentorship, education, and career preparation programs. The evening ultimately raised $3.7 million for the organization, which will help provide resources to thousands of Asian American youth in New York.
“As we gather for Apex for Youth’s 34th Inspiration Awards Gala, we’re not just celebrating achievements—we’re investing in the opportunities, support, and community that make those achievements possible,” executive director Jiyoon Chung exclusively told ELLE. “Every dollar raised tonight directly supports young people across New York City to build a sense of belonging, confidence, and agency. This night is about the community that shows up to make that transformation real.”
