June marked a powerful close to the school year across the Apex for Youth community. From our 4th Annual Book Fair to mentoring program celebrations and our Mental Health Art Exhibit, the month was filled with moments of connection, growth, and pride. We honored our students’ achievements from middle school milestones to high school and college graduations and wrapped up our first-ever Career Connections cohort. As we reflect on these milestones, we’re reminded of the strength of our community and the transformative impact of showing up for one another.
Program Spotlight:
Our 4th Annual Book Fair

At the start of June, we hosted our 4th annual book fair. In communities where 61% of low-income families have no books at home, access isn’t a given; it’s a gap. The book fair provides youths and families with the opportunity to fall in love with reading, learn, and see themselves represented through AAPI books. It’s about creating moments of connection, joy, and possibility for our youth.
Art Exhibit

Each year, our Mental Health team puts together an art exhibit to showcase the incredible talents of our youth. More than just an art show, this event is a meaningful celebration of self-expression, personal growth, and the healing power of creativity.
Throughout the year, our youth participate in a wide range of creative activities, utilizing art as a powerful outlet to explore their emotions, experiences, and identities. From painting and drawing to sculpture and mixed media, every piece of artwork tells a story and offers a glimpse into their unique perspectives. This special day is dedicated to providing a space where their voices can be seen, heard, and celebrated in their creative journeys.
Programs Closing Day

Apex celebrates another impactful year of mentorship and educational support through our Middle and High School Mentoring programs in Brooklyn and Manhattan, as well as the College Access Program’s graduation. Mentors and mentees came together for a meaningful closing day filled with senior speeches, activities, and reflection. As we celebrate their achievements and the mentors who guided them, we look ahead with excitement for what’s next.

Career Connections

We wrapped up our first Career Connections cohort with 18 participants. Our program helps alumni bridge the gap from college to career through mentorship, industry panels, and networking opportunities. The foundation of Career Connections is built on meaningful, tailored mentorship. The program operates by matching Alumni with Industry Professionals. Each alumni mentee is paired with a mentor in their field of interest. Together, the mentor and mentee co-create an action plan that aligns with the alum’s current career stage.
