Apex serves approximately 2,700 youth annually from elementary through young adulthood. We provide children and young adults with opportunities to develop strong relationships with adults who volunteer as consistent and caring mentors and role models.

JOB OVERVIEW

Our Mental Health Services (MHS) department addresses the emotional and mental health needs of Apex youth from kindergarten to college age through individual and group therapy, peer supportive workshops and events, and supports families and the community at large through community engagement and education. The primary mission of MHS at Apex is to promote the mental well-being of Asian American and immigrant youth through culturally responsive counseling and education. Our approach centers on consistent relationships and embraces the unique experiences of immigrant and Asian American communities.

The per diem licensed clinician (LMSW, LCSW, LCAT, LMHC, etc.) will be joining our MHS team, providing support in the delivery of high-quality therapeutic services, including individual and group therapy services primarily in Sunset Park, Brooklyn.  Depending on scheduling, the per diem may also have the opportunity to co-facilitate therapeutic groups and support events/workshops in our Manhattan office. Permit holders can receive supervision from a member of the MHS team (LCSW and LCAT) for licensure requirements. This role will report to the Associate Director of Mental Health Services. 

The commitment for the per diem clinician is 12-14 hours/week at $50/hr. 

Responsibilities-

  • Provide weekly individual therapy to a small caseload  youth ranging from elementary to high school  (4-6 individuals)
  • Plan and facilitate weekly group therapy for  youth ranging from elementary to high school (approximately 15 sessions for 10 youth) 
  • Maintain clinical documentation, including assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries, to ensure compliance with Apex for Youth’s policies and clinical standards.
  • Coordinate youth and family outreach and scheduling in collaboration with Mental Health Associate. 
  • Collaborate with MHS clinicians on case formulation, risk assessment, crisis intervention, and service referral when needed, 
  • Support community engagement and education events depending on scheduling.
  • Participate in regular check-ins/supervision with MHS staff.
  • Ensure timely communication with MHS staff regarding critical incidents, emergencies, or crises.

  • LCAT, LMSW, or LCSW or equivalent license,  in New York State; permit holders (i.e. LCAT-LP) are also eligible.
  • Minimum 2 years of clinical experience with youth and families, inclusive of supervised internship experience.
  • Strong ability to establish rapport and working relationships with different youth age groups. 
  • Demonstrate ability to design and implement creative and cultural responsive therapeutic interventions.
  • Demonstrates experience working with Asian American, immigrant, or historically marginalized communities.
  • Strong clinical judgment and understanding of culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and youth-centered approaches.
  • Ability to make decisions independently and reach for support when needed. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Commitment to Apex’s mission and values.
  • Mandarin language proficiency preferred but not required.  
  • Lived experience as a member of the communities we serve is welcomed.

OVERVIEW OF BENEFITS

Paid time off: In the first year of employment, you will be eligible for roughly a combined 40 days of vacation, holiday, personal, and sick leave (10 vacation days, 12 paid federal holidays, org-wide closures for one week over the winter holidays and one week during the Fourth of July, 5 sick days per year, 3 personal days a year).
