Opening Doors for the Next Generation of Leaders
청소년을 위한 에이펙스’s Professional Development (PD) workshops are a cornerstone of our JT Tai Internship program. Designed to show Asian American youth the wide breadth of career pathways available and that “success” can be defined in many ways. Our mission is to equip youth with the resources, networks, and confidence to make their own decisions about their future while reminding them of the power of choice.
This summer, our high school and college interns participated in four PD sessions that took them beyond their worksites and into real-world professional spaces. These experiences gave them the chance to build community with peers and network with professionals from across NYC. They also explored new industries and prepared for future workplace environments.
Din Tai Fung: Lessons in Hospitality and Growth
At Din Tai Fung, interns heard the story of the restaurant’s global growth in the U.S and Canada. They learned about building a strong brand and developing staff from entry-level roles to management. The career panel was followed by a lunch featuring the restaurant’s signature dishes, where interns enjoyed small group discussions with Din Tai Fung staff, gaining both professional insights and a taste of the hospitality industry.
“From Din Tai Fung, I learned a lot about how the back-end of work is important; no matter what the work is, it’s about learning and giving your all. Sitting with uncomfortableness is a huge one that resonated with me. As I continue to develop my professionalism, this is a great motivational quote that will remind me of what is important throughout this development.”

JPMC: Cybersecurity and Early Career Navigation
JPMorgan Chase & Co. welcomed interns to their flagship branch for an engaging session on cybersecurity. Followed by a career panel offering practical advice on starting in the workforce and thriving in early career stages. Students are left with both technical knowledge and strategies for workplace success.

AMC Networks: Insight from the Entertainment Industry
At AMC 네트워크, students connected with employees from various departments and participated in a career panel. During the discussion, they focused on early career advice, maintaining relationships with internship supervisors, and discovering the diversity of roles available at a large media organization. The visit highlighted how different skills and interests can lead to dynamic career opportunities within a single company.

Advocating for Yourself with Vana Lab
In a dedicated self-advocacy workshop, Vana Lab guided students through strategies for navigating workplace conversations. They also learned to read nonverbal cues, such as body language, and build connections with their peers. The session emphasized that advocating for yourself is a skill that grows with practice and that confidence can open unexpected doors.

We are deeply grateful to AMC Networks, JPMorgan Chase & Co., Din Tai Fung, and Vana Lab. Thank you for generously sharing your time, expertise, and encouragement with our interns. These experiences not only open doors but also inspire our youth to envision and work toward their unique paths to success.
