Apex for Youth empowers underserved Asian and immigrant youth from low-income families in NYC to unlock their potential and a world of possibility. Through programming focusing on health and well-being, education, and community engagement, Apex for Youth creates transformative social connections and celebrates cultural identity to build the confidence and self-efficacy of future generations.

Apex serves approximately 2,000 students annually from Kindergarten through their post-secondary years. We provide children and young adults with opportunities to develop strong relationships with adults who volunteer as consistent and caring mentors and role models.

JOB OVERVIEW

The Apex Community Network Coordinator represents Apex within Manhattan Chinatown, Sunset Park, Brooklyn, and Queens. This role aims to increase awareness about Apex’s programs and resources to new communities through events and short term programs in order to create recruitment pipelines to Apex’s Elementary Enrichment, Athletics, Mentoring, and College and Career Success programs. The Apex Community Network Coordinator will create relationships with partner organizations who align with Apex’s mission, and work together with those organizations to put on events and short term programs. Reporting to the Deputy Director of Programs, the ideal Community Network Coordinator candidate will be strongly connected to the New York City Asian community and have experience with building lasting partnerships, executing community events, and program planning.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create partnerships with Asian and immigrant serving organizations in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens
  • Collaborate with community partners to create short term or one off events and programs that build Apex’s visibility and serve a need in partner communities, with a priority in Queens and Brooklyn
  • Work closely with the program team staff to align community programming with Apex’s volunteer programs, including Elementary Enrichment, Athletics, Mentoring, and College and Career Success, in order to build recruitment pipelines to those programs
  • Lead the coordination of and be on-site for events for outside organizations and individuals at the Apex offices in order to create a hub for Asian American youth in New York City
  • Represent Apex at relevant community events within Chinatown, the Lower East side, and other Asian immigrant communities in New York City
  • Assist the Deputy Director of Programs to evaluate the success of community programs in progress towards goals and tracking participation and retention data
  • Attend relevant organizational meetings, as necessary

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3-4 years experience working with the Asian and immigrant community required
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with ability to create genuine relationships
  • Positive and bright disposition with “can do” attitude
  • Proactive nature and self starter, ability to problem-solve autonomously
  • Enjoys working closely with a team, as well as independently
  • Candidates are expected to be able to commute to the Apex office in Manhattan at least 1-2 days a week
  • Ability to work on evenings and weekends as needed

 

Salary range: The salary range for this position is $51,000 – $56,000, depending on experience.

 

Overview of Benefits

Paid time off: In the first year of employment, employees are eligible for approximately a combined 40 days of vacation, holiday, personal, and sick leave (10 vacation days, 12 paid holidays, org-wide closures for one week over the winter holidays and one week during the Fourth of July, 5 sick days per year, 3 personal days a year). Additional vacation days accrue according to years worked in the organization.
