Associate Director of Marketing & Communications


Apex for Youth empowers underserved Asian and immigrant youth from low-income families in NYC to unlock their potential and a world of possibility. Through programming focusing on health and well-being, education, and community engagement, Apex for Youth creates transformative social connections and celebrates cultural identity to build the confidence and self-efficacy of future generations.

Apex serves over 2000 students annually from Kindergarten through their post-secondary years. We provide children and young adults with opportunities to develop strong relationships with adults who volunteer as consistent and caring mentors and role models.



The Associate Director of Marketing & Communications is a full-time position responsible for overseeing and implementing Apex for Youth’s marketing and communications campaigns and strategies as well as supervising, supporting, and developing two team members: the Digital Media Coordinator and Marketing & Communications Coordinator.

Alongside a newly formed team, this vital role reports to the Director of Marketing and Communications and will be the lead project manager, organizing and prioritizing projects and tasks in order to convey Apex’s mission and impact through engaging storytelling across multiple platforms. This position will also manage contracts and designers, liaise with other associate directors across the organization to collaborate on deliverables and meet deadlines, and manage the departmental budget with support from the Director of Marketing and Communications.



  • Collaborate with the Marketing & Communications Director on strategy while taking ownership of translating departmental objectives into day to day implementation 
  • Manage marketing campaign timelines, projects and budget, ensuring deadline are met and quality is maintained through content calendars and project management software (Asana)
  • Supervise, support, and develop two team members: the Digital Media Coordinator and Marketing & Communications Coordinator
  • Review and compile social media, e-marketing, and web analytics to create monthly and quarterly reports with takeaways to inform optimization of future campaigns, training team to improve content  
  • Produce quality digital and printed materials for marketing, programs, development, and special event needs with support from the team and graphic designer
  • Direct and monitor communications vendors, consultants, and freelancers within department budget
  • Write compelling and concise copy for creative content such as email campaigns, newsletters, blog posts and social media, with the support of the Marketing & Communications Coordinator and Director.
  • Manage eMarketing (Mailchimp) and website content and platforms in collaboration with the Digital Media Coordinator 
  • Support the Marketing & Communications Coordinator to enhance Apex’s social media presence through an annual marketing plan, regular, quality posts, stories, and reels to increase followers, and engagement across Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn 
  • Manage organization, centralization, and sharing of photo and video assets for optimal workflow efficiency
  • Support development efforts and program events as needed (2–3 times per month, involving evening/weekend hours)




  • 8+ years of experience in marketing at a nonprofit, with 3+ years of full time, people management experience required. 
  • Must demonstrate an ability to prioritize, multi-task, remain highly organized in a fast paced environment, exhibit attention to detail, and a history of project management experience 
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills a must
  • Familiarity with email marketing platforms (Constant Contact, MailChimp, Wordfly) required
  • Creative and curious, with a desire to learn and grow professionally and personally
  • Comfortable with giving and receiving feedback, with proactive problem-solving skills
  • Independent and enjoys owning projects, yet able to ask for help when needed


  • Experience with creating and presenting digital media analytics strongly preferred
  • Experience with social media platforms and integrated digital marketing campaigns required, with a focus on marketing, copywriting, and communications
  • Experience with graphic design, photography, video shooting and editing preferred
  • Enthusiastic to promote Apex for Youth’s mission
  • Spoken bilingual skills helpful

Apex staff is currently working a hybrid schedule, in-person at least twice a week. The successful candidate must be located in the New York metropolitan area with the ability to work primarily during office hours, with some evenings and weekends as needed.


Overview of Benefits

Paid time off: In the first year of employment, employees are eligible for approximately a combined 40 days of vacation, holiday, personal, and sick leave (10 vacation days, 12 paid holidays, org-wide closures for one week over the winter holidays and one week during the Fourth of July, 5 sick days per year, 3 personal days a year). Additional vacation days accrue according to years worked in the organization.

Salary range: The salary range for this position is $78,000-$95,000, depending on experience.
